Bodoquena
An Odyssey of the Brazilian Pantanal

Bodoquena is Mato Grosso in the mid-nineteen-sixties: the stranger Gerry Carreiro steps off the train inside a huge Pantanal cattle ranch amid the latest repercussions of his predecessor's murder. Almost immediately he is confronted by the stealthy, cunning nature of the Pantanal's dramatic cycle of life and death: fire, water, beasts and men that kill, with tragedy always lurking, veiled behind the forest's exuberant flowerage...
Nearby, in a surprising world of canyons, cliffs and sinkholes inside the limestone mountain of which only a small part is known around Bonito Gerry perceives the first whispers of a latent conflict involving a dispute over land and water, and a woman, in whose past hovers the specter of a crime, and in her future, revenge. Somewhat naïve, and rushed by the stimulus of a new driving force, Gerry is sucked into this conjuncture, without having understood it correctly.
